Nobody Told Me That
For entrepreneurs, risk takers, and those figuring it out as they go.
Nobody tells you about the moments that change everything.
Not the big, obvious ones — but the quiet ones.
The conversation you almost didn’t have.
The deal that fell apart and quietly redirected your life.
The mistake that turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to you — but only in hindsight.
You know the feeling: you did everything right… and it still didn’t go the way you planned.
Whether you’re in the middle of the struggle — or finally looking back and connecting the dots — this book will feel familiar.
Nobody Told Me That is a collection of those stories — earned over two decades of building, losing, pivoting, and starting again.
Not a system.
Not a framework.
Just honest lessons that help you understand where you’ve been… and feel more confident about what comes next.
Start with a decision that didn’t work…
and the realization that only made sense years later.
That moment changed everything.
If things haven’t gone the way you expected… good.
That’s where this begins.

I didn’t have a plan
When I arrived in the United States, writing a book wasn’t on my mind. I was focused on surviving.
Unloading trucks. Long days. Broken English…
Rolling with the punches—one screw-up at a time.
-
Courage
-
Trust
-
Failure
-
Reinvention
Real stories—built the hard way.
…and the strange way people call it “luck” when you never stop showing up.
The Moments That Don’t Make Sense…
Until They Do
- The Survival Season
Those years when it feels like you’re “just getting by”?
You’re not stuck — you’re building something you can’t see yet. - The Luck Factor
What most people call “good timing” is usually something else:
showing up, staying consistent, and refusing to quit. - The Trust Currency
People don’t connect with credentials.
They connect with real stories—and people who’ve actually lived them. - The Immigrant Edge
Starting from zero isn’t a disadvantage.
It’s pressure, hunger, and clarity—if you learn how to use it.
A Cold Morning at the Car Wash
When I arrived in America, my English was limited — and my confidence wasn’t much better.
My first job? A car wash.
Early mornings. Cold air. Soap, water… and a long line of cars waiting.
At the time, it felt like survival.
But looking back now, that small beginning was one of the first invisible dots in a much bigger story.
Because that experience taught me something simple:
If you’re willing to work, learn, and keep moving — even the smallest opportunity can turn into something bigger.
This book is full of moments like that.
Small scenes… that only make sense years later.
A Little About Me
I’m an entrepreneur and storyteller who has spent the last two decades learning life lessons the long way. I founded Shades In Place, a window covering company I built in Boston, MA and now operate in Tampa, FL. What began as a small service business became my real-world classroom for understanding trust, leadership, and resilience.
That journey eventually expanded into Trading Up Consulting, where I mentor professionals in the industry, and the podcast No Strings Attached. More recently, I became a partner in BlindsOnline.com.
But the truth is, my real education didn’t come from titles or milestones. It came from the mistakes, the conversations… and the moments that didn’t make sense at the time—but changed everything later.
